Low Energy Neurofeedback System
LENS is a form of brain wave biofeedback that is particularly useful for cognitive problems such as attention deficit disorder, or those resulting from injury such as traumatic brain injury or stroke. Improvments are seen in all areas of functioning including thinking skills and attention, mood and motor skills.
LENS is a non-invasive drug free approach to enhancing the function of the central nervous. In contrast to most forms of biofeedback, it requires no conscious effort or learning on the part of the client. The LENS approach is based on facilitating the nervous system's inherent healing capacity and not a predetermined protocol based on diagnoses or brainwave patterns. Treatment is effective with sessions once a week or up to two or three times per week depending on the client's response.
A brainwave map is created to guide treatment. A symptom checklist and thorough interviewing and consultation is to determine progress. EEG is measured at the scalp one site at a time. The feedback is in the form of very low electromagnetic frequencies similar to radio waves and the client’s own brainwave frequency is mirrored back on the same wire at a slightly different rate. Reductions in amplitude and normalization of EEG frequencies have been correlated with symptom reduction. See www.ochslabs.com for further information and references.
